“Okay, Kara, that sounds great,” stated Wayne. “I’ll check with my dad, and it it’s okay with him I’ll pick you up in half an hour.” A pause. “Okay, bye,” he added.

“Dad, can Kara Olsen spend the night with me?” the boy asked his father.

“Wayne, just because your mother’s out-of-town for the weekend…” began Bill Sutter.

“That’s not what I was talking about, Dad!” answered the boy. “She’s not even my girlfriend—we’re just friends. We’re going white water rafting tomorrow with some other kids, and we want to get an early start. Kara lives all the way by the Wal-Mart, so we figured it’d be easier if she spent the night here. She’ll sleep in the guest room.”

“Did you ask your mother?” asked Bill.

“No, we hadn’t thought of it until just now,” admitted Wayne, “but Mom said I could go on the raft trip.”

“Who else is going?” asked the older man.

“There’s Mark Lichter, Bill Tews and his girlfriend Janet Krueger, John Lafayette, Linda Lishka, Pam Green, Kara, and me. We hope to get to the river before eight o’clock so we can get on it right away. We’ve got two tents, one for the boys and the other for the girls, and we plan to be back by 6 p.m. on Sunday,” explained Wayne. “Bill is going to drive Mark, Janet, and Pam. I’m supposed to pick up Linda, Kara, and John. Linda and John live near the high school, so they’re on the way, but Kara…”

“Okay, it sounds good, Kara can stay overnight,” said Bill. Further discussion demonstrated that the kids had planned everything—food, life vests, helmets, etc., so Wayne left to pick up his friend. 

Bill turned the page of his newspaper and flipped through the channels on the TV. The usual on the news—a terrorist bomb in Jerusalem, an overturned bus in India, Congressman Robinson (R-WI) indicted—nothing new. Another boring Friday night, he thought. 

No, it would be worse than usual. Marcia, Bill’s attractive 38 year-old wife, had gone to visit her mother, who had had a heart attack on Tuesday. Bill was getting horny—he wasn’t used to so many days without sex. He went to get a beer from the refrigerator, but there wasn’t any. He realized he’d have to go to the supermarket the next day, but then he had a better idea. He’d run out to the 7-11 and get a few things, enough for the weekend. With Wayne and Marcia gone, he wouldn’t need much. 

Bill drove to the store and picked up some hamburger patties, frozen fries, spaghetti sauce, taco shells, and fresh fruit. He reached for a six-pack of beer, but seeing that wine coolers were on sale, he grabbed a couple of cartons of wine instead. Marcia was fond of wine coolers, although he thought they were generally too sweet.

On his way home, Bill stopped at the video store and rented an old Burt Reynolds movie—“Deliverance.” He loved the scene with the “battling banjos,” and he thought the kids would enjoy it, too. He almost exchanged it for another, but what the heck—he doubted the movie would discourage the kids from taking the trip. Damn—he was wishing he’d been invited. 

Bill was putting the things away when Wayne came back with Kara. Wayne introduced the eighteen year-old to his father, and then he went upstairs to get his things ready for the trip. He and Kara had soon packed the car and were ready to go. Bill offered the kids wine coolers, and then the three of them sat down to watch the movie.

After watching the movie, the three sat in silence for a while, and then Wayne announced, “Kara, I think we’d better go to bed, because we have to get up early tomorrow. I’ll show you your room.” He and Kara swallowed the last of the second bottle of wine. “Good night, Dad.”

“Good night, Mr. Sutter,” said Kara as she leaned over to peck him on the cheek. “It was nice meeting you.”

Kara wasn’t wearing a bra, so Bill got a good look inside her low-cut blouse as she leaned over to kiss him. Seeing her perky, half-orange sized tits and taking in a whiff of her perfume brought about an erection. “Good night, kids,” he said. “I think I’ll be hitting the rack, too. What time are you leaving in the morning?”

“We plan to get up about 5, and we hope to leave about 5:30,” answered his son.

“Well, if I don’t see you, have a good time.”

Wayne led the way upstairs, and Kara followed him. Bill admired her tight little ass as she climbed the stairs, and he stiffened some more. Wayne showed her the guest room, and then he returned to his own room. Kara closed the door, and Wayne went the rest of the way down the hall to the spacious master bedroom.

The phone rang and Bill answered it. It was Marcia. She didn’t think she’d be able to get back until Sunday night at the earliest, but she might have to stay even longer. Her mother wasn’t doing well, and yes, she might have to miss some more days of work. Bill told her that he loved her, and that she shouldn’t worry. 

He slipped an old Pink Floyd cassette into his tape recorder and went to the bathroom before getting undressed. He couldn’t help but think about that sweet young girl just down the hall. He returned to his room and removed his shoes and socks.

The door opened. “Mr. Sutter, do you mind?” asked Kara. She looked really cute in her baby-doll pajamas, and Bill could clearly see that she wasn’t wearing anything underneath other than a thin pair of panties. “I saw the light on. I’m looking for some sheets and a blanket to put on the bed. There’s nothing but a bedspread!”

“Oh, I’m sorry honey,” he said. “Come here, I think Marcia keeps the extra sheets and blankets in this closet.” He walked over to the closet and the girl followed him. While he looked for the sheets, she sat down on the bed, and they started talking. 

“No, I don’t have a boyfriend,” she admitted, “and I was hoping that Wayne might be interested in me. In fact, when Wayne asked if I wanted to spend the night…” she giggled. “I even bought some condoms. I guess I shouldn’t be telling you that,” she giggled again. “He’s a very nice boy, but he’s very shy...” Her voice started to falter.

“Yes, he’s shy, but he’s a nice kid,” noted Bill. “Hey, you seem upset, Kara. What’s the matter?”

“Nothing, Mr. Sutter…” she responded. Then she started again, “It’s just…I’ve been thinking about that movie. I know it’s just a movie, and I shouldn’t worry, but…well, white water rafting can be dangerous you know.”

Bill sat down and put his arm around her shoulders. “I wouldn’t worry about it, honey,” he said. “I’ve gone rafting a half-dozen times, and it’s a lot of fun. The thrill of danger is a big part of it.” He brushed Kara’s hair and kissed her on the cheek. She smiled and kissed him back. As they embraced, Bill felt Kara’s firm breasts against his chest. Kara suggested they close the door. 

“You want to close the door?” asked the man, surprised. “Are you suggesting you want to be alone with me?”

“Yes, I do! No,” she said, “I’m afraid. I don’t know.”

“There’s no reason to be afraid,” suggested Bill. “I won’t hurt you. You’re a lovely girl, and I’d be flattered if you decided you wanted to make love to me. But this is just a lonely, middle-aged man talking. Come on, I’ll help you put these sheets on the bed so you can get some sleep.”

“No, Mr. Sutter, I’m not sleepy,” she grabbed his arm. “I do want to make love to you, really. You seem so strong and self-assured. Please make love to me.” 

Bill hugged the girl and kissed her firmly, but gently, on the lips. He questioned her again, and he convinced himself that she was sure this time, that she truly did want to make love. “I’d better go get those condoms,” he said. “Where are they?”

“In my fanny pack, next to the nightstand,” she said. 

Bill hurried to the guestroom and found the fanny pack on the dresser. Opening the bag, he found several packages of condoms. “This girl’s quite an optimist,” he thought. He grabbed a package of three and closed the door tightly as he left the room. It wouldn’t do to have Wayne wake up and see that Kara’s bed was empty. He hurried back to the master bedroom.
