Wonderful review, Delia! Very dnereffit from your other reviews. I haven't heard of this book. It looks like c9mile Zola wrote books on a wide range of topics. The relationship between Rene9e and Maxime made me remember a Chinese movie which came out a few years back, called Curse of the Golden Flower' which was on a similar topic. Glad to know that you enjoyed your first Zola book.
