Chapter 4 Concentration

The next few days, Father John took great pains to only teaching Sally her lessons, not engaging in any punishments or taking advantage of her. He found that this usually left the girls off guard. You are to continue reading from the bible. Can you do that, Sally?”

Sally picked up the bible, standing in front of him. “Yes, Father John. That should not be hard.”

“I am going to make it very difficult for you. If you disobey me, speak or stop reading from the bible, you will be punished. It is very important that you learn to concentrate on God. Your parents will be very proud if you can accomplish this.”

The past thoughts of punishment came back into Sally’s brain. Not again. Just when she thought it was over, the nagging doubt came back into her head. “No, you’re not going to punish me again, are you Father John?”

“Only if you fail God and his test. You don’t want to do that, do you Sally? Everyone would be so disappointed in you.”
