The Masturbation Lab

Good Morning, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Dr. Margaret Lubewell. I’m an Associate Professor of Biology here at the University and I will be your principal instructor for the lab section of your Physiology 303 course. As you all are aware, this course deals primarily with the physiology of the male and female reproductive organs as they relate to human sexual encounters. Our perspective in this lab is even more narrow. We are interested primarily, no let me restate that, we are interested solely with the personal autoerotic stimulation of the sexual organs in both males and females. In other words, we are going to study masturbation. In order to accomplish this goal, this lab section will be broken down into teams of two. 

Each team will have one female member and one male member. We will be studying self stimulation so, the job of the lab partners will be to record and report data as observed during his or her partner’s stimulation of his or her sex organs. Humans, of course, do this primarily for pleasure and to relieve sexual tension during periods when sex with a partner is not possible. Masturbation in the male is the primary method of harvesting sperm to be used for reproductive purposes when the female is unable to carry a baby to term or where the male desires to donate his sperm to another. There has recently been scientific evidence that indicates that in males who have masturbated regularly from their teen years through their 20s and 30s, 40s and further, there is a lower incidence of prostate cancer. That’s right, masturbation can better the average male’s chances of avoiding prostate cancer later in life through regular self-stimulation and ejaculation. This is based, in part, on the theory that certain carcinogens build up within the prostate during the production of seminal fluid. Ejaculation eliminates those carcinogens from the body thus reducing the chance for their spread. 

The optimal rate of ejaculation would be, on average, 21 times each month, either through auto-erotic stimulation, masturbation, or through sexual intercourse with a partner. With females, obviously the avoidance of prostate cancer is not the issue. What is at issue, however, is self esteem, happiness with one’s physical self and the right to complete sexual satisfaction and release alone and with one’s sexual partner. Several topics we will discuss during the course of this lab that relate to female sexuality will be primary anorgasmia and pre-orgasmia (situations where a woman has never had an orgasm under any circumstance, either while masturbating, with a partner, or in any other situation. We will also be interested in secondary anorgasmia (where a woman has had at least one orgasm but cannot do it now; and in situational anorgasmia (where a woman can only orgasm in certain situations – for example she can climax through self-stimulation but not with a sexual partner).

Before I put up the list of partners, let me lay down certain rules. First of all, each team will be assigned a cubical which will be equipped with a comfortable, for lack of a better word, examination table. This will allow the team member masturbating to place himself or herself in a comfortable position. There will be a side chair for the non-masturbating team member to sit while observing and taking notes. The room will also have supplies that will aid in the research, such as lubricants, vibrators and other objects which can be inserted in the vagina. There will also be a small refrigerator which will contain certain organic materials that may aid in your quest for self-stimulation and satisfaction. Normally we will have melons, types of squash, bananas, ice cubes and more. We can “order in” anything you request. Third, we will ask team members to use the digital cameras provided to take photos of the genital areas during the masturbatory process. Only pictures of the genital areas will be permitted and these will not be identified to a particular person. 

Fourth, with respect to males, it will be necessary for the non-masturbating team member, i.e., the female, to collect the semen as it is ejaculated from the male’s penis. The ejaculate will be stored in test tubes labeled with the date and the male’s assigned lab code. The purpose will be to study carcinogens that may be present at the beginning of the exercise and to see what the level of those carcinogens is at the end of the lab study. Fifth, there will be no sexual intercourse during lab periods. 

This is a study of masturbation, not of the physiology that occurs during sexual intercourse whether vaginal or anal. Sixth, you may use any masturbation techniques you desire. We will provide a list of “suggestions,” but it’s up to each team. What you do in your personal time is no concern of the University. If it turns out that team members are attracted to each other or desire sexual contact outside of this lab, that’s their business. Seventh, with regard to female team members, non-masturbating team members are to take samples of female lubricants produced during the self-stimulation process. These will be collected on lab slides and appropriately labeled with the female team members lab code and the date on which the sample was extracted. In those situations where the female actually sprays or “ejaculates” during masturbation, this will be stored in a test tube in the same manner as male semen. Finally, female team members will need to shave their pubic hair. They may do this at home or they may ask their lab partner to help them with this task during the lab period or on their own time. Female pubic areas must remain shaved for the duration of this course. Ok, students, that’s all I have for now.
